Treasure Island Park re-opens June 1

DOWNEY - Treasure Island Park will reopen June 1 after a $400,000 renovation that includes a new walking path, new playground equipment, landscaping, benches, picnic tables and other improvements.The grand opening celebration begins at 11 a.m. and will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, free activities for children and refreshments. Renovations were funded by a state environmental grant. The park received a new decomposed granite walking path, new trees, drought-tolerant turf and native landscaping, re-grading to retain water runoff on-site, irrigation system improvements, lighting improvements, nature interpretive signs and new benches, picnic tables and trash receptacles. There is also new playground equipment thanks to a grant from First 5 L.A. The equipment is specially designed for chidlren under 5 years old. "After months of construction, we are excited for the re-opening of Treasure Island Park and look forward to the community enjoying the wonderful new park improvements," said Mayor Mario Guerra. "We offer our sincere gratitude to all of those involved in making this project a reality, specifically the California Resources Agency, L.A. Conservation Corps, First 5 L.A., South Bay Landscaping and city staff." The grand opening is free and open to the public.
