Warren baseball beats Downey for second time

DOWNEY - The Warren High School baseball team defeated cross-town rival Downey at Warren on Tuesday, 5-1.Warren previously beat Downey 5-3 in their first of three meetings on March 15. With this second win against Downey, Warren improved their overall record to 12-3 and league record to 5-1. Warren is tied for first place with Paramount at 5-1. Gahr is one game back at 4-2 and defending league champion Downey is currently in fourth place at 2-4. Lynwood and Dominguez round out the other S.G.V.L. competition and are currently in fifth and sixth places, respectively. Downey's overall record now stands at 10-8 and as previously mentined, have a league record of 2-4. Downey and Warren will play their last league game today against each other at Downey in the first of the San Gabriel Valley League's home and away series'. Both Warren and Downey have full schedules to play as league season heats up. Warren will play Ontario Christian in the St. Paul Tournament on 4/13, host Dominguez on 4/19 and play South Gate at South Gate in the Long Beach Poly Tournament on 4/20. Warren will then play Lynwood at Warren on 4/23 and then travel to Paramount to play the Pirates on 5/3. Warren is currently ranked eighth in the latest Long Beach Press Telegram weekly poll. Downey will play at Gahr on 4/16, Gahr will play at Downey on 4/19, Downey will play host to Paramount on 4/23 and then travel to Paramount to play the Pirates on 4/26. Things will certainly start to clear up in the next two weeks as league contenders collect wins, a S.G.V.L. champion will be crowned and the C.I.F. Division III playoff picture becomes more clear.
