Women's chorus to perform in Downey

DOWNEY - The California Women's Chorus will hold its 44th annual public scholarship concert April 28 at the Downey Theatre.Thirteen member choruses from throughout the state belong to the California Women's Chorus, a non-profit group that raises scholarship money for vocal students. Accomplished composer and arranger Rob Blaney will serve as guest director at the concert, which is titled "Sophisticated Ladies: a Tribute to Women Then and Now." Accompanying the chorus will be Christine Lecce, an accompanist for Woodbridge High School in Irvine, where Blaney works as director of vocal music. Master of ceremonies will be Craig Stickney, whose wife, Carol, is a founding member of the California Women's Chorus. Concert tickets are $20 and available at the theater box office and online at downeytheatre.com. The concert begins at 2 p.m.
