Scholarship contest for college singers

WHITTER - Vocal scholarships are being offered by the New Century Singers Whittier to college vocal students.Applicants must be U.S. citizens between 18 and 30 years old and have a recommendation from a vocal faculty member. They also must be available to perform at the annual New Century Singers' spring scholarship concert on May 18 at 3 p.m. Applications are due March 20. Auditions will be held April 5 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at First Friends Church in Whittier. Candidates must provide their own accompanists and perform two songs showing contrasting style. Awards will be two $1500 scholarships for the college/university level and two $750 scholarships for community college students. Entry fee is $25 for university students and $20 for community college students. Last year's winners are not eligible, unless applying at a different level.
