DOWNEY - More than 200 Warren High School students will join popular German indie pop band Tonbandgerat at a concert March 4 at Millikan High School in Long Beach. The concert is Tonbandgerat's fourth stop on an 11-city U.S. tour.
The two sisters and their two bandmates who make up the German-language quartet won the New Music Award as Germany's newcomer band of the year for 2012 and just finished a tour through Germany.
"This band from Hamburg will show young Americans that Germany is more than beer-drinking Bavarians," said Peter Zygowski, tour coordinator at the Goethe-Institut in San Francisco. "They will spread the word, not just in their concerts but also in classroom visits, that German is cool and that Germany today is a colorful and happening country."
The concert tour is part of an advertising campaign, "Just Add German", by the Goethe-Institut to challenge the most common stereotypes about Germany and to "offer a more diverse and authentic image of Germany today."
