Bicycle coalition

Dear Editor: I’d like to take this opportunity to personally thank and acknowledge Lars Clutterham for helping Roger Pardo to create and organize the Downey Bicycle Coalition.

Through his tireless efforts of writing articles and educating us on the do’s and don’ts of the road, the citizens of Downey have been privileged to participate in monthly bike rides that were scheduled on the last Saturday of each month through various sections of Downey.

Some bike rides included: the Halloween ride where a number of the bikers donned their costumes as the Bike Coalition rode through the city; the Thanksgiving ride where a live turkey joined in as he joyfully was transported in his own turkey-coupe on wheels; the Bike Coalition joined in on the Christmas Parade festivities, and a unicyclist joined the group to add merriment and delight the crowds with his unique and creative antics. The recent Tour de Downey, where over 100 bicyclists and citizens of all ages joined in on the 6-mile bike ride, again, a complete success.

This could not have been done without Lars.

So, let’s all come out and join the Downey Bicycle Coalition this coming Saturday, Sept. 6, when they meet at Furman Park at 8:30 a.m., departing at 9 a.m., as they bike through our magnificent city of Downey.
