Downey historian is guest speaker

DOWNEY – Lifelong Downey resident Larry Latimer will be the guest speaker at the Oct. 23 meeting of the Downey Historical Society. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. inside the John Downey Room at the Barbara J. Riley Center.

Latimer is a director with the Aerospace Legacy Foundation and the Downey Historical Society. He is author of “Images of America, Downey,” published in 2010.

The owner of Computer One Solution Inc., Latimer has used technology to research and showcase Southern California history, particularly of Downey. He has made more than 40 computer-generated presentations to groups and local students about Downey’s history.

His mother, Cleo, was a Downey teacher for 30 years who began her career at Old River School in 1950.

Thursday’s meeting is free and open to the public.
