Free enterprise

Dear Editor: The news lately has been mentioning that the Russians are sending stooges into the Ukraine to foment unrest and discontent among the locals in hopes of their voting to join with Russia.

Closer to home in the same broadcasts, the President has been touting equal pay for equal work.

Can it be that he is attempting to foment unrest and discontent among women for similar reasons?

While I’m all for the concept of equality, the big question here that no one is addressing is just exactly who will be determining what is “equal work”. Possibly the Department of Labor will assign someone to constantly monitor and do a productivity and time-study on every employee and assign each of them a score; that would be one retrained government bureaucrat employee for every private producing employee, which would then solve the un-employment problem facing the Country.

In the free enterprise society that we used to be, perhaps it would just be better to let employers decide on “equal work” and proper pay for every employee’s contribution to the company as management scores it.

Sports writer Grantland Rice so aptly put it ...

“For when the One Great Scorer comes

To mark against your name,

He writes – not that you won or lost –

But how you played the Game.”

Perhaps we’re on the verge of letting the government become our “scorer”.
