Library wins $2500 for digital books

DOWNEY − The Downey City Library has been awarded $2,500 from e-book provider OverDrive after increasing its circulation of electronic books by more than 70 percent during the month of June. OverDrive is the library’s e-book partner, and provided the $2,500 towards the purchase of new digital books.

The library increased e-book circulation with the help of library staff, members of the Friends of the Downey City Library, the Library Advisory Board, and members of the public.

“This is a great example of how together, our city and community members can make things happen,” said Mayor Fernando Vasquez. “We thank everyone who participated by checking out e-books last month and making this award possible for our library.”
