Margaret Garde mourned

DOWNEY – Margaret “Peggy” Garde, a longtime volunteer at the Downey library and hospital, died March 31 surrounded by family. She was 83. Peggy was born May 3, 1930 in New York City, the sixth of seven children.

She worked for TWA in flight operations for 25 years at JFK International Airport before moving to Long Beach in 1980 to be near her sister, Kathleen.

She worked another seven years for Robert Shaw before retiring and buying a condo in Downey, where she had resided since.

She volunteered at the library for many years and also at Downey Community Hospital for 15 years.

She is survived by her sister, Mary (Peter) Ruelius of Texas; nephews, Richard von Reyn of Oregon and Tom (Georgia) von Reyn of Colorado; and nieces Doreen von Reyn of Oregon and Eileen (Dave) Bushway of Arizona.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 3, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, with a reception to follow.
