Return of poetry

Dear Editor: I want to commend you on the placement of the new “Poetry Matters” column in the April 24 issue of The Patriot.

Putting Rick Smith’s poem on the same page with other events in the culture world was a happy choice.  Readers with an interest in the arts could also find out about happenings at the Stay Gallery, and see - my favorite - a picture of the Eiffel Tower in April, from a faithful reader on spring break.

The opposite page, with the banner, “Dining/Entertainment,” continues to share news from the top of the pyramid of self-actualization and leisure: Downey Library activities, student achievements and speech competitions.... “Sports” fits in next as well.

The lower half of the page gives the listings at the Krikorian movie complex, plus a notice for a philanthropic pan cake breakfast as well as colorful ads for dine-out options at local restaurants.

A double page bouquet of pleasures.
