DOWNEY – At its June luncheon, the Woman’s Club of Downey presented three $1,000 scholarships to local outstanding high school students. The students will continue to receive the scholarship over the next four years as long as they maintain the required GPA.
Scholarship recipients include Alejandra MacDougal, who graduated from Warren High and will attend Stanford in the fall; Downey High grad Giannina Marciano, who will attend Harvard; and Jennifer Garro, who will graduate from Downey Adult School’s court reporting program in August.
The club also donated $800 to the Friends of the Downey City Library and the Downey Symphony’s Music in the Schools program. The donations were raised through bunco games.
The club’s next general meeting will be in October but the clubhouse is open in the summer to accept donations to benefit PTA Helps and Metro state hospital.
