Intersection caution

Dear Editor:Downey drivers need to be extra alert at the intersection of 7th Street and Downey Avenue. Recently my family has observed on several occasions that the Downey Avenue traffic may not stop or even slow down at the stop sign. These incidents do not appear to be just token observances with cautious slowing or intentional scofflawing, rather they appear simply to be complete obliviousness to the signs posted on both left and right corners - as though they were not present. Greater enforcement will only serve to enrich the city's coffers, but do very little to get the attention of the next inattentive driver. Greater awareness when approaching on 7th Street may serve to prevent a collision; never pull out and trust drivers to honor the signs, but wait for them to stop. We surely do not need another traffic signal in the city; there are already too many. Hugh T. Hoskins Downey
