President Kennedy

Dear Editor:In referring to the two rebuttals of my letter printed in the Downey Patriot's Letters to the Editor on Nov. 14, on the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President Kennedy, Mr. Frank Myers' and Mr. Jorge Montero's letters prove my point. A conspiracy is a serious issue, especially when it involves the murder of the President of the United States. Majority of the polls taken indicate the belief of a governmental conspiracy in covering up information on the assassination of President Kennedy. That is serious and is no joke. As for the "Kennedy myth," we speak not of Mr. Kennedy, good or bad. That is not the point. He was only human and had faults like all of us. We have had and will have presidents that will be better or worse than he was. The point is, again, the conspiracy and the attempt on the part of the government to conceal the truth from the people of the United States. Many Americans believe that the Kennedy assassination cover-up was the start of government misinformation and cover-ups from the Vietnam War to Watergate and President Nixon to President Bush's war in Iraq. If Americans would believe the Warren Report, they would believe anything. The History Channel's series on the 50th anniversary of this event took a final poll. It found that 95 percent of the American people believe in a conspiracy. 5 percent do not. Who are the 5 percent? The government and the media. Vincent Diaz Downey

Dear Editor: After reading Jorge Montero's letter regarding President Kennedy ("Kennedy Myth," 11/28/13), I had to ask myself, why would he attack a president that has been dead for 50 years and can't defend himself? I was particularly irritated when Mr. Montero dragged the Catholic faith into his letter by wondering if President Kennedy had confessed his sins. Why should that be on anybody's mind? We all know Kennedy was a womanizer, but what makes his sin any worse than the many sins Mr. Montero has undoubtedly committed? What made me furious was when he attacked Mrs. Kennedy. Should the fact that Mrs. Kennedy married a Greek tycoon be offensive? How does Mr. Montero know that Mrs. Kennedy was not a "dutiful wife"? I didn't know Mr. Montero was a personal acquaintance of the Kennedy family. What an offensive bunch of garbage. You can disagree with President Kennedy all you like, but Mr. Montero has no idea what went on in his personal life or what his thoughts were because he wasn't there. How dare he attack Mr. Kennedy, who is no longer here to defend himself, and who, in my opinion, did nothing wrong. He should be ashamed. Alixandra Hernandez Downey
