This is the time I'm grateful to own a smartphone (with calendar), because a busy weekend is on tap for Downey.
More specifically, it's going to be a hectic Saturday.
It starts Saturday morning with the Arc Walk for Independence. Registration begins at 7 a.m., followed by the actual walk at 8 a.m. You don't want to be late and miss the pre-walk hoopla.
At 9 a.m., West Middle School will be collecting e-waste from residents. Drop off your old computers, monitors, etc. (No big appliances.)
The Habitat for Humanity will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. for their new home at 12812 Blodgett Ave. The Habitat is also offering local homeowners free exterior home repairs.
The Knox Brass Ensemble will present a special concert at 7:15 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Downey.
Finally, if brass isn't your thing, the Downey Symphony will play at the Downey Theatre at 8 p.m.
Whew. And that's just Saturday!
