•The proposal submitted by National CORE to redevelop the Avenue Theatre and Verizon building will not be made public because negotiations are still underway, city officials told me.
When the City Council votes to approve the agreement, the proposal will become public record, city officials said.
•Some busy Saturday's coming up. Tomorrow is the annual Carnival of Champions at Warren High School; May 2 is the Street Faire; and May 9 is Kid's Day at Furman Park.
The Downey Patriot will have a booth at the Street Faire, so drop by and say hi. We'll have applications for prospective interns, as well as information on advertising. Kinda boring, I know, but hey, we're a newspaper.
•West Middle School librarian Julia Desalernos, who was recently honored as "Teacher of the Year" by the Los Angeles Clippers, has also been named "Woman of the Year" by Assemblyman Hector De La Torre.
• The MTA voted yesterday to name a stretch of the Gold Line after Edward R. Roybal, late father of Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard, who represents Downey in Congress.

•Gangs Out of Downey took in more than $11,000 at Wednesday's fundraiser luncheon. And that's just in donations and doesn't count revenue from ticket sales.
