Downey Marine killed in action

Marine Lance Cpl. Joshua Whittle, of Downey, was killed June 6 while supporting combat operations in Afghanistan, the U.S. Department of Defense announced today.

He was 20.

Whittle was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force out of Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.
