DOWNEY - It’s on to the conference championship playoffs this weekend for five of Downey’s six tackle football teams.

Flag division has no playoff schedule, but the four Razorback flag teams played outstanding football all season long and are all champions.

MityMite Red was eliminated from the Pacific Coast Conference playoff’s Saturday even though they ended the season with a respectful 4-4 record. The rest of Downey’s Razorback teams are starting the second season in playoff games being hosted by various organizations in the conference this weekend.

MityMite White (6-2, 4-1) snapped a two game losing streak by edging Long Beach. Downey White secured the No. 2 seed by virtue of the win and will play the conference No. 3 seed, Lawndale Cardinals, at Gardena High School at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Despite their loss last weekend, the Jr. PeeWee Razorbacks (3-5, 2-2) qualified as the No. 3 seed in the Pacific North Division, and will be the visitors in their playoff game against the Lawndale Cardinal. Their game is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start at El Rancho High School.

The Razorback PeeWee’s (6-1, 3-0) defeated an overwhelmed Montebello Extreme 24-0 in action Saturday at Downey High School. Long touchdown runs by Joshua Medina and Justin Huff, and a strong defense, were too much for the visitors to handle. The PeeWee Hogs will represent Downey as the No. 1 seeded team in their division in the upcoming playoffs. The Razorbacks play the Gardena Mohicans at George Bellis Park in Buena Park at 3 p.m. tomorrow.

The Razorback Jr. Midget’s (5-3, 3-0) ended their regular season with a big win over Long Beach. On the very first play from scrimmage, Daniel Sanchez ran 60 yards for a touchdown and set the tone for the game.

Tristan Esparza, Gregory Martinez, (2 TD’s) and Joseph Henriquez also scored on long runs for the Hogs in the victory. Henriquez tossed a TD pass to Javier Vargas for another score.

Downey’s Jr. Midget’s are their conference’s champion and go into tomorrow’s playoff game against the Lawndale Cardinal as the No. 1 seed. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start at Mayfair High School.

Downey’s Midget Razorbacks (6-2, 3-1) continued their winning ways with a victory over Long Beach in week eight. They secured a No. 2 seed in the playoff’s and will battle the Inglewood Seminoles at Moore Field at 1 p.m.

Winners of tomorrow’s games will play in the conference’s semi-final round next week.
