The City of Downey will celebrate Veteran's Day next Wednesday with a special reception in the Downey Theatre courtyard beginning at 10 a.m.

The event will mark the installation of 20 military banners along Firestone Boulevard. The banners pay homage to Downey residents currently serving in the U.S. military.

Families of those receiving a banner have been invited to the ceremony. The general public is invited as well.

The city hopes to order another 20 banners when enough applications have been received. Nomination forms are availble on the city's website (www.downeyca.org) or by calling (562) 904-1895.

The banners are partially funded by community donations, which are still being accepted.
