All it took was 12 minutes to end the season of the Bears.
Their offense? Flat. Their defense? Gone missing. Their season? Over. All of this in the first quarter of Warren's second round 28-7 loss to Alemany in the CIF playoffs.
Alemany's quarterback Vernon Adams passed for 177 yards and two touchdowns, and running back Malcom Marable rushed 19 times for 125 yards and a touchdown in a very balanced attack that Warren was unable to stop in the first quarter.
Warren's star running back Jesse Callier was never able to get his game going and for the first time and last time all season, he was kept out of the end zone and held without scoring.
Quarterback Sam Bettencourt threw for only 17 yards on 4 for 10 passing and was picked off once.
The Bears were held scoreless until the latter part of the third quarter and turned the ball over three times before scratching on the scoreboard.
On the flip side, Alemany scored on their first three possessions and never looked back.
When Warren appeared to gain some momentum offensively after their first touchdown in the third quarter, Alemany kept driving down the field and burning time on the clock. The Warriors would end up turning the ball over on downs twice in the fourth quarter but to no penalty as they stopped any Warren rally in it's tracks.
The Bears finish their season 10-2 overall, winning the San Gabriel Valley League championship for the second straight year.
