Speaking at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit yesterday, Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk said his company was conducting "final due diligence" on the site of its next production plant, according to a story by Edmunds.com.

Downey officials said in November that Tesla intends to open the plant at what is now Downey Studios, and the deal is awaiting government approval.

Tesla has not confirmed that account, however.

Both Downey and Long Beach have offered Tesla tax incentives to lure the automaker. The new production plant will manufacture Tesla's all-electric Model S and is expected to create up to 1,200 jobs for the region.
