Crime Report

Friday, Oct. 16:
At 7:10 p.m., Downey police officers were dispatched to a traffic collision at the intersection of Imperial and Bellflower. Upon their arrival, officers located a 65-year-old male trapped between two vehicles. The victim’s vehicle had broken down so he exited his vehicle. After exiting, he stood behind his vehicle and was struck by the suspect vehicle, pinning one of the victim’s legs between the two cars. The victim suffered a fractured leg and was transported to a local hospital where doctor's advised his condition was not life-threatening. The suspect was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for felony drunk driving.


Saturday, Oct. 17:
At 8 a.m., Downey police officers were dispatched to 10050 Imperial Hwy (Vehicle Storage Park) regarding several RV’s that had been burglarized. During their investigation, officers located seven RVs and trailers that had been burglarized in the secured lot. Officers searched the area but could not locate any suspects. The vehicles were examined and processed for evidence. Detectives are investigating.


Sunday, Oct. 18:
At 11 a.m., a Downey police officer on routine patrol was driving by Wyman’s Liquor located at Firestone and Woodruff, when the officer observed two subjects running from out of the location. As the officer drove into the parking lot, the clerk exited the store and began pointing at the fleeing subjects. The officer exited his patrol vehicle and chased the two subjects, ultimately catching one of the subjects, an 18-year-old male from Cudahy. The other subject got away. Upon contacting the clerk, it was determined that the suspects had each taken beer from inside the store and fled, failing to pay for it. The suspect was arrested and booked for shoplifting. 

At 2 p.m., Downey police officers were dispatched to a vehicle fire at Firestone and Dolan. Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. During a quick search of the area, officers located the occupants who had evacuated safely. Downey Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.
