DOWNEY – Isaac Okebiorun, who immigrated to the U.S. from Germany as a teenager and quickly endeared himself to his Downey High classmates and basketball teammates, died suddenly last week at age 22. A cause of death has not been publicly reported, but officials at Cal State Monterey Bay, where Okebiorun was attending school, said he died in his apartment.

Downey High’s campus newspaper profiled Okebiorun in 2009 and noted that, at 6 ft. 6 inches tall, he was already being recruited for the basketball team.

Friends and family of Okeibiorun created a GoFundMe page to raise $5,000 for his burial. Donations can be made at gofundme.com/re388gk
