Kenneth Beckner

Kenneth Beckner passed away peacefully on March 9th, one month shy of his 97th birthday. A long time Downey resident, Ken lived a full life with his family and in his community. As a World War II Army Veteran, an active member of the Disabled Army Veterans and American Legion, Ken was proud and honored to have served in the Armed Services. He often shared about his experiences in Europe, as well as his rough seas transport aboard the Queen Mary. Kenneth was born and raised in Clayton, New Mexico. After the War, he and his wife Virginia purchased their first home in Downey in 1950. There, they raised their son, DeWayne. Ken worked and eventually retired from EckAdams Furniture Company.

After retirement, Ken kept busy with community service projects and doting on his grandchildren. Ken served on the City of Downey Water Board and was Chair of the Downey Cemetery Board. He played a key role in the fundraising, building and dedication of the Veterans Memorial at the Downey Cemetery in 2005.

Ken is survived by his son DeWayne, grandchildren Geoffrey, Nicole, Yamizel and his great-grandchildren, Carleigh and Ethan.
