Letter to the Editor: Roybal-Allard boycotts inauguration

Dear Editor:

Approximately 67 members (Democrats of course) decided to boycott the US presidential Inauguration. The elections are over and regardless of candidate support, the respect for American electoral process should be maintained by members of Congress.

This is appalling that elected members of the United States Congress would display their personal reasons in their dislike of the person elected to the office of President of the United States. They preferred to embarrass the United States electoral system, its constituencies (that elected them), the office of the United States of America Presidential Office, and overall, the people and country of the United States of America, as well for the principles that this country was established.

It is appalling that the Downey area elected official, Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard, would be part of this group. She needs to be warned that she may have not only violated Constitutional principles as an elected official but also failed as the Congressional representative of her district.

Her dismal performance in office should be reviewed by her constituencies at the next election. More could have been accomplished by attending than by staying out of the cold weather.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (the defeated opponent to the President) attended with smiles alongside the former presidents. She represented the country proudly by sitting on that stage with the new President to honor the United States of America’s peaceful transition of power without speaking harshly toward her former opponent.

We may hear from Mrs. Clinton in the future but on this day, she was an American and proudly.
