Multi-tasking

Dear Editor:I am sure that every man in today's society wonders how a woman manages to have all four burners on the stove going at the same time without ever burning a thing. Is this multi-tasking, you ask? No, it is the domestic ability that women are taught over the years of watching their mothers. Speaking of multi-tasking, I am so happy to say that I live in a generation where there is more multi-tasking going on that one would ever imagine. Let me give you a few examples of what I have observed over the past couple of weeks, as it is becoming more evident that we are living in a talented generation or one where people have no regard for other people's safety. Recently at the market, I observed a woman with a baby, changing its diaper, while holding a bottle to his mouth and still managing to look at her grocery list. On the way home, which was the most upsetting thing, a mother with three children in the car managed to turn around and slap one of her children, while talking on her cell phone and still attempting to stay focused on the road. Oh, and let's not forget the teenagers who, while walking to school, can apply makeup, comb their hair, while at the same time manage to be texting someone, while they hold up traffic crossing the street. I am still trying to figure out how a man can be mowing his lawn and be on a hands-free cell phone and expect the person to hear what they are saying. My God, we have become an intelligent group of people. We live in a generation where it is necessary to learn to accomplish more than one thing at a time, and for this I am proud to say that I stand in awe of all who have this talent. Multi-tasking is a good thing and in some jobs it is even a requirement. Just look at our President; he has managed to upset the Republicans, upset the people who have worked hard all their lives to feel responsible for the people who chose to sit back and get a free ride, make changes to the health care system to where senior citizens now live in fear of what their future health care holds. All this from a man who if he had all four burners going on at once would probably burn something, as we all know something is undoubtedly burning somewhere. He is certainly one of the most inconsistent multi-taskers I have seen or heard. I wonder if he can chew gum and walk at the same time. - Kathy Rae Bach, South Gate
