Streets chosen to be resurfaced

DOWNEY - Nearly 4.1 miles of crumbling city streets are scheduled to be resurfaced according a project approved by the City Council on Tuesday.The city will soon put out to bid a project to resurface 38 segments of city streets, encompassing a total surface area of 768,673 square feet. The streets to be resurfaced were chosen by a city evaluation system that ranks street segments according to their surface conditions. Some of the streets scheduled to be resurfaced include Barlin Avenue, from Gardendale Street to Century Boulevard; Vultee Avenue, from Buckles Street to Stewart & Gray Road; and Cole Street, from Rives Avenue to Paramount Boulevard. The resurfacing project is expected to cost $1.5 million, which had been budgeted and will be paid for using gas taxes.
