DOWNEY – More than 150 people participated in the fourth annual Downey CROP Hunger Walk this past Saturday, raising money to fight global hunger.

Final fundraising totals are not in yet, but organizers said 25% of all donations will stay local, going to the food bank at Downey First Christian Church and PTA HELPS.

Walkers trekked 3.5 miles around Downey; the distance represented how far people in developing nations have to walk one way to obtain fresh water.

The event was organized by volunteers from Downey First Christian Church, Downey Memorial Christian Church, Downey United Methodist Church, Boy Scout Troop 2, Light and Life Church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, PTA H.E.L.P.S., St. Mark's Episcopal Church, and Temple Ner Tamid.

Safety for the walkers and traffic control was provided by the Downey Police Explorers.

It's not too late to make a donation. Online contributions are accepted at crophungerwalk.org/downeyca
