Books, CDs up for auction

DOWNEY - The Friends of the Downey City Library has released its silent auction items for the month of February, with all proceeds benefiting the library. Up for auction are:"The Encyclopedia of Immaturity" (the editors of Klutz have put together a humorous volume "gathered over the course of a misspent and lifelong childhood!"); "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Ellis Island" (includes an alphabetical listing of people and events of the 1892-1924 mass migration to the United States); Elvis Presley CDs (3 CDs cover most of his rock and roll material); "501 Must-Visit Natural Wonders" (a spectacular and invaluable resource); "Martha Stewart's Cooking School" (lessons for cooks at all skill levels); "Covers of the Saturday Evening Post" (over 3500 covers from 1899-1999 with introductions and history); "The Wild West - Lawmen, Outlaws, Ghost Towns and More" (fascinating and heroic frontier characters and events); "Guitar - Music, History, Players" (from its origin more than 3000 years ago right into the new millennium); "The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Soccer" (an illustrated guide that covers the teams and players through the 2002 World Cup); "50 Things That Really Matter" (...the simplest gestures, events and values); "Above Los Angeles" (a collection of current and historical photographs); and "The Precious Moment Bible" (a children's edition with 40 pages of artwork). All auction items have opening bids from $4-$8. Bids can be made through Jan. 25 in the Friend's book store, located in the young adult section of the library.
