American flag

Dear Editor: Independence Day, the Fourth of July, is an ideal day to fly your flag.

It is customary to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on flagstaffs in the open but it can be displayed at night when it is properly illuminated. Always stand at attention and salute when the flag is passing in a parade or being raised or lowered. The U.S. military bugler plays or sounds “Reveille” at day break usually near sunrise. All troops stands at attention when it is played.

Those of us who have served our country in the military will remember each morning and each evening when we would stand at attention saluting the flag as it was raised and lowered while the bugler played “Reveille” in the morning and “Taps” at night.

What a thrill listening to the bugler play those sharp staccato notes.
