Bosco bounces back with win over Crenshaw

BELLFLOWER –  Coming off their first lost in nearly two years, the St. John Bosco Football program wanted to flush that losing feeling from their system as soon as possible. Unfortunately for the Crenshaw Cougars they became the heavy punching bag where Bosco would get out their frustrations, as Bosco rolled to the 65-7 victory last Friday.

Unlike the previous two games, Bosco’s offense wasted no time finding their mojo versus Crenshaw. On the Braves first possession senior quarterback Josh Rosen hooked up with wide receiver Joey Chenoweth for a 55-yard touchdown pass. This same duo would connect two more times on the evening, as Rosen finished 12 of 16 for 264 yards and five TD’s. Chenoweth lead all Bosco receivers with five catches for 119 yards and three TD’s.

After Bosco jumped out to 14-0 lead, Crenshaw responded with a 44-yard touchdown pass to Cougar wide receiver Aundre Carter. The score cut the Bosco lead in half, 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.

However, from the second quarter on it was all Bosco as they scored 21 second quarter points and kept it going by tacking on 30 more points in the second half to put this game away early.

As the passing game of Rosen and his receiving corps were finding the end zone early and often in the first half. It was the running game of Quentin Davis and Clifford Simms that moved the chains and kept the Crenshaw offense on the sidelines in the second half.

Davis and Simms combined for 158 yards and three touchdowns on the night.

The Braves defensive unit had another strong showing by completely shutting down the Crenshaw offense for the final three quarters of the game.

With the win Bosco improves to 4-1 and Crenshaw now stands at 2-3 on the season.

It will take another complete team effort if Bosco hopes to open their Trinity League title defense with a victory over undefeated Mater Dei tonight, Friday Oct. 10th.

The Mater Dei Monarchs finished 5-0 in their non-conference games and hope to avenge the two losses Bosco handed them last year.

Kick-off time is 7:30pm at St John Bosco High School, Bellflower.
