Mildred Wylie was school secretary

DOWNEY - Mildred E. Wylie, a former longtime resident of Downey, died on March 1. She was 94.She was born in Jefferson, Tex. and grew up in Neosho, Mo. where she met her husband, Emory M. Wylie. They were married in 1932 and moved to Downey with their baby daughter in 1936. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Downey, and was employed at Downey High School as a secretary to the principal for 20 years. She was a member of the Downey Community Hospital auxiliary, and belonged to the Santa Gertrude Chapter D.A.R. of Downey. Wylie had been residing at Morningside, a retirement community in Fullerton, the last six years. She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in 1999. She is survived by her two daughters, Dorothy Crabtree and Betty Jane Wheeler; grandchildren, Vicki Wendt-Holland, Tamara Wendt-Kardashian, Lisa Kendrick, Jeffrey Wheeler, and Dan Wheeler; and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at Rose Hills in Whittier on March 6.
