Downey mayor appointed to rivers conservancy

Mayor Luis Marquez is sworn-in to the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy by city clerk Adria Jimenez.

Mayor Luis Marquez has been appointed by Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins to serve on the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy (RMC).

The governing board is responsible for awarding $30 million in voter-approved Prop 1 state bond funding for local park projects.

“I am honored to have been chosen to serve on the RMC and thank Ms. Atkins for this appointment and consideration,” said Marquez, who was sworn-in at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. “The RMC plays a very important role in helping organizations to create and restore park projects in our critically-underserved region.”
