BELL — Ana Maria Quintana has been sworn in as mayor of Bell, beginning her first term in the position after 15 years on the City Council.

Quintana, who finished as the top vote-getter in Bell’s 2026 election, was sworn in Aug. 13. She was first elected to the council in 2011 following the corruption scandal that resulted in criminal charges against former Bell officials and brought national attention to City Hall.

During her time on the council, Quintana has focused on government transparency, accountability and civic participation, according to her office.

“I am deeply honored to serve as Mayor of the community that helped shape who I am,” Quintana said. “For 15 years, I have worked to make sure our city government is transparent, accountable and responsive to the people it serves.”

Quintana has also organized voter registration drives, immigration and Know Your Rights town halls, first-time homeownership programs and other community events.

One of her initiatives, “Rebuilding Bell One Block at a Time/Reconstruyendo Bell Cuadra por Cuadra,” involved Bell High School students participating in neighborhood cleanups and civic engagement efforts.

Earlier this month, Quintana was also sworn in as president of the Los Angeles County Division of the League of California Cities, which represents cities throughout the county.

Quintana grew up in neighboring Cudahy after her family moved there when she was 9. She attended Bell High School, where she served as student body president.

She later earned a bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Yale University, a master’s degree from the Universidad de Navarra in Spain and a law degree from Columbia Law School. She is an attorney specializing in public law.
