DOWNEY – The Assisteens, an auxiliary of the Assistance League of Downey, is made up of high school-aged boys and girls who volunteer 40 hours of service each year. Part of their service hours includes working at the Second Tyme Around Thrift Shoppe in Downtown Downey on the first and third Saturday each month.

This year, the Assisteens will be donating money from their sales to Operation School Bell, a program that provides new school clothing, shoes, hygiene kits and school spirit shirt vouchers to children within the Downey Unified School District, allowing them to arrive in the classroom better prepared to learn.

If you are at the shop on their Saturday and make a purchase, they will “ring the bell,” indicating that your purchase will be donated back to the Downey community via this philanthropic program.

Shopping events are held throughout the year at Kohl’s department store at Stonewood Center. Parents interested in this program should contact their student’s school for information on participating.
