Author of Jewish trilogy to speak

DOWNEY - Renowned author Maggie Anton will discuss her trilogy of books when she visits the Ezra Center for Mature Adults at Temple Ner Tamid of Downey on Tuesday.Anton wrote "Rashi's Daughters," a book of historical fiction centered on Rashi, a Talmud scholar born in 1040 who was recognized as the eminent authority for interpreting the Bible and adding his commentaries in simple to understand language. According to custom, women were forbidden to study Talmud, but Rashi's three daughters felt otherwise. Anton's books delve into Jewish superstitions, restrictions, marital relations and everyday life. The lunch meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. Cost is $6 for Ezra members and $7 for non-members.
