Bears lose by only 1 point to Riverside Poly

DOWNEY - The Warren High School girls' water polo team currently has an overall record of 19-11 and finished S.G.V.L play with a perfect 10-0 record. The Lady Bears are the two-time defending C.I.F. Division VI champions and were seeded third in the C.I.F Division V playoffs this postseason. The Lady Bears won their first round game 22-2 against an overmatched Pasadena squad on February 13th and defeated Temescal Canyon 10-2 last Saturday at the Downey Aquatics Center. The Lady Bears lost to No. 2 seed Riverside Poly Wednesday at Whittier College, 8-7. The other semifinal featured top seeded Crescenta Valley against fourth seeded Redlands East Valley (score unavailable at press time). The C.I.F. Division V Final will be held this Saturday at the Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine. Other S.G.V.L. schools have all been eliminated from competition. Cerritos lost to Redlands East Valley 11-8 in the quarterfinal round after defeating Elsinore 16-4 in the first round. Downey lost to Crescenta Valley 11-2 in the first round after defeating Fontana 13-7 in a play-in game. Gahr lost their play-in game to Redlands 12-5. Coach Cordero is in the position she expected her team to be in and thinks any of the remaining teams can beat each other on any given day. As Coach Cordero told me earlier in the season, "it all boils down to which team plays as a team from start to finish." Cordero concluded by saying, "the team who can capitalize on their advantages and minimize their mistakes will win."
