Carpenters union endorses Carrie Uva for city council

DOWNEY — Carrie Uva, candidate for Downey City Council District 4, announced that she has earned the endorsement of the Western States Regional Council of Carpenters, a major labor organization representing skilled tradespeople throughout Southern California and nine other western states.

The Western States Regional Council of Carpenters works with elected officials and developers on issues affecting workers, infrastructure, construction standards and economic opportunity.

The organization represents workers in numerous trades, including residential and finish carpenters, drywallers, millwrights, cabinet makers, floor installers, bridge builders and other construction professionals.

“I am honored to have the support of the hardworking men and women that this organization represents,” Uva said. “Downey needs responsible leadership that understands the importance of creating good paying jobs, investing in our infrastructure and ensuring that development strengthens our community and improves residents’ quality of life.”

The Carpenters endorsement adds organized labor support to Uva’s campaign as she seeks to represent District 4 on the Downey City Council.

Uva said she would bring her professional experience, record of community involvement and understanding of land-use issues to City Hall while working collaboratively with residents, businesses and working families.

“Downey’s future depends on making thoughtful decisions today,” Uva said. “I look forward to working with residents and stakeholders throughout our community to keep Downey safe, financially strong and a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

Uva has served on the Downey Planning Commission since 2021 and currently serves as its chairperson.
