CERRITOS — The city of Cerritos has expanded its recreational offerings with the addition of eight new pickleball courts at Liberty Park, unveiled during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 12 led by the Cerritos City Council.
The project, approved in April, repurposes two existing tennis courts into dual-use courts that can be converted into four pickleball courts each. The decision came in response to growing community interest and increased demand for pickleball facilities.
“Cerritos has a beautiful parks system, and the City Council and our staff take pride in not only maintaining these venues but ensuring they offer robust amenities,” said Mayor Frank Aurelio Yokoyama.
With the latest additions, Liberty Park now offers 13 pickleball courts. Citywide, Cerritos provides a total of 23 outdoor courts, including 10 located at Don Knabe Community Regional Park. Indoor drop-in pickleball is also available on Sundays at Whitney High School’s Community Gymnasium.
The new courts are open to the public on a drop-in, first-come, first-served basis unless reserved for city programming. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and weekends during spring and summer, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends during the fall and winter. Court usage is limited to one game to 11 points when others are waiting.
Liberty Park is located at 19211 Studebaker Road.
