The Cerritos Auto Square experienced record-breaking sales in 2016, selling 61,938 vehicles, Cerritos officials announced.

The previous sales record occurred in 2015, with 60,842 vehicles sold. Compared to 2015, the 2016 figure was an increase of 1,096 vehicles, a nearly 2 percent gain.

Nationwide in 2016, 17.55 million vehicles were sold, marking a record-setting year.

"The City of Cerritos congratulates the Cerritos Auto Square on its record-breaking year," Cerritos mayor George Ray said in a statement.  "The city is delighted to be home to the world’s most successful auto mall. The Cerritos Auto Square provides thousands of jobs and generates millions of dollars in sales tax revenues which help fund public safety, library and recreation services.”

“With great support for the City of Cerritos and a convenient location for customers all over the Southland, Cerritos Auto Square dealers served up another new all-time sales record in 2016," Dave Conant of Norm Reeves Honda. "With well over 61,000 total sales in the books, the Auto Square dealers are already working to set yet another record in 2017.”

In addition to funds acquired through vehicle sales, the Cerritos Auto Square also generates a significant amount of non-taxed dollars that flow through the economy as a result of maintenance and repair work, city officials said.

Cerritos Auto Square offers the world’s largest selection of new and used cars, with 17 dealerships and more than 20 brands, including Acura, Buick, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Scion, Toyota and Volkswagen.
