Cerritos College Theatre Department announces Tío Juan performances

NORWALK — The Cerritos College Theatre, Film and Television Department will present Tío Juan, a new adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s classic Uncle Vanya, this March at the Performing Arts Center Black Box Theatre.

Described by the department as a faithful yet boldly localized adaptation, Tío Juan resets the original play in 1934 South Texas, blending Chekhov’s timeless themes with a distinct cultural and regional backdrop.

Performances are scheduled for Thursday, March 5; Friday, March 6; and Saturday, March 7 at 8 p.m., with a matinee performance on Sunday, March 8 at 2 p.m. at the college’s Performing Arts Center Black Box Theatre.

Tickets are available to the public, with prices typically ranging from $10 to $20.

Cerritos College’s performing arts program stages several theatrical productions each year, providing students with hands-on experience in acting, technical production, lighting, costume design and stage management.

Tío Juan marks the latest offering in the department’s spring season and is expected to draw both campus and community audiences with its creative reinterpretation of a well-known dramatic work.
