DOWNEY – The Los Angeles County Governance Reform Task Force will hold a public meeting in Downey on Wednesday, May 27, to gather community input on Measure G and the ongoing restructuring of county government.

The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Women’s Club of Downey, located at 9813 Paramount Blvd. The meeting is open to the public and will also be available online.

Measure G, approved by voters in 2024, is a charter amendment that will significantly restructure Los Angeles County government over the next several years. According to the task force, the measure represents the county’s most substantial government reform effort in more than a century.

The reform phases will be implemented between 2026 and 2034 and include expanding the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors from five members to nine, creating the county’s first directly elected executive position, establishing an independent Ethics Commission, and adding a new director of budget and management to oversee the county’s nearly $49 billion budget. The measure also creates a recurring Charter Review Commission.

Task force officials described the Downey meeting as one of a limited number of public engagement sessions intended to gather resident feedback before key implementation decisions are finalized. The meeting will include a public comment period.
