Crime Report: 6/1/21

  • On May 19 at 1150 hours, officers responded to the Stonewood Mall in regards to a tailgate theft in progress.  The suspects fled prior to officers arriving.  Due to the witness’ quick call to police and the fast response, officers located the suspects in the area.  The tailgate was returned to the victim and an adult male and adult female were arrested.  

  •  On May 19 at 1725 hours, officers responded to the 8000 block of Adoree St. in regards to an in-progress catalytic converter theft.  The victim saw a male suspect attempting to cut the catalytic converter from his vehicle. The victim chased the suspect away from his vehicle. While the suspect was running away, he swung a hand-saw at the victim, narrowly missing the victim. The suspect entered a black Suburban with a female adult driver and fled the scene. The license plate was captured by a witness. The Detective Bureau is currently investigating. 

  •  On May 20 at 1600 hours, two suspects entered the smoke shop located at 7352 Stewart and Gray Rd.  The adult male and adult female pointed a firearm at the clerk and demanded money.  One suspect removed approximately $800 U.S. currency from the register.  Both suspects entered an older model Nissan Altima and fled. Detectives responded and the investigation is ongoing.

  • On May 23 at 0920 hours, officers responded to the 8000 block of 4th Street in regard to a burglary in progress.  The victim received an alert via his Ring camera and immediately drove to the residence, where he located the adult male suspect inside.  The suspect fled the location and was detained a short distance away by responding officers.  The suspect was arrested. 

  • On May 23 at 1155 hours, officers responded to the 10200 block of Mattock Ave. in regards to a home invasion robbery.  Two adult male suspects armed with an AR-15 rifle entered the home and confronted a single female resident.  They demanded $30,000 cash and eventually left with electronics and other items from the home.  The victim was uninjured.  The detective bureau responded and followed various investigative leads.  At approximately 2000 hours, all the suspects were located in the city of Whittier and arrested.  All the stolen items and the rifle utilized during the crime were recovered.  There was no threat to public safety as it appears the victims were targeted.
