Crime Report: 9/16/25
On Sept. 13 at 9:35 am, officers responded to the Downey Civic Center area, regarding an assault. The victim, a 58-year-old Downey resident, was found stabbed at the location. First responders rendered aid to the victim; however, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The suspect fled on foot and was reported to have entered Downey High School. The school was placed on lockdown. The suspect was ultimately located by officers and taken into custody without incident. The investigation is ongoing.
On Sept. 13 at 9:45 am, the Downey Fire Department responded to the area of the Downey Civic Center regarding an assault. While on scene, providing emergency life-saving measures to the victim, the suspect, who was a bystander, gained entry into the unsecured paramedic unit and fled the scene. A vehicle pursuit ensued, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Air Unit overhead. In the course of the pursuit, the suspect intentionally collided with a Downey Police patrol unit, causing moderate damage to the front end, rendering the vehicle inoperable. The pursuit ultimately entered the City of Alhambra, where the suspect was involved in a collision with a parked vehicle. At the conclusion of the pursuit, officers were able to take the suspect into custody.
On Sept. 15 at 12:40 am, an officer attempted a traffic stop on a wrong-way driver. The vehicle failed to yield, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The driver ultimately yielded on the shoulder of the 710 Freeway just north of Imperial Highway. The driver, a 25-year-old male from Long Beach, was taken into custody for evading and suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
