Crime Report - July 5

Friday, June 24:
At 1:30 a.m., officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation at Firestone & Dolan. The vehicle failed to stop and a short pursuit ensued. At the end of the pursuit, the driver and passengers fled from the vehicle on foot, avoiding arrest. Detectives are investigating.

At 11:00 p.m., officers monitoring traffic observed two vehicles possibly street racing at Firestone and Lakewood. Officers conducted a traffic stop one of the vehicles and cited the driver for street racing. The vehicle was impounded.

At 11:00 p.m., two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputies were shot by a suspect who attempted to evade a DUI checkpoint at Lakewood & Oak in the City of Bellflower. Downey police officers were asked to assist the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department with maintaining a security perimeter. The suspect was ultimately taken into custody by a Los Angeles County Sheriff SWAT.

Saturday, June 25:
At 1200 p.m., officers responded to a call of graffiti on light poles and benches along the east side of Rio San Gabriel Park. Detectives are investigating.

At 2:30 p.m., two brothers were involved in a argument in the 11500 block of Brookshire. During the fight, one of the brothers brandished a gun and shot at the victim. The suspect fled, but was detained by officers a short distance away. Nobody was injured during the incident. The suspect, a 30-year-old man from Huntington Park, was booked for 245 PC, assault with a deadly weapon.

On Friday and Saturday night the Department’s Crime Impact Team provided extra patrol to the Downtown area. Officers issued 7 traffic citations, 1 parking citation, and 7 Municipal Code citations for various violations.

At 12:00 a.m., officers responded to a traffic collision in the area of Firestone & Ryerson. During their investigation it was determined that a juvenile from the City of South Gate had crashed into another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was injured and transported to a local hospital. The juvenile suspect was placed under arrest felony DUI.

Sunday, June 26:
At 8:30 p.m., an automated license plate reader alerted officers to a stolen vehicle in the
vicinity. Officers located the vehicle and arrested the driver. The suspect, a 21-year-old woman from the City of Whittier, was booked for grand theft auto.
