Crime Report: May 18, 2016

THURSDAY, MAY 5
At 2:00 p.m., detectives arrested a man wanted in connection with an attempt homicide that occurred earlier in the week. The suspect was walking on Florence at Downey Avenue when he was spotted by a detective and arrested. He was booked for attempted murder.

At 3:00 p.m., two men entered Advance America located in the 7400 block of Florence, a money loan store, and robbed it at gunpoint. The suspects, two males wearing “hoodies,” fled the location and eluded capture. Detectives are investigating.

At 7:00 p.m., officers responded to Discovery Park after receiving a call of a “suspicious man.” Officers contacted the man and determined he was hallucinating and was under the influence of drugs. During the arrest the suspect attempted to punch one of the officers. He was booked for being under the influence of drugs and assault on a police officer.

The Department’s Crime Impact Team patrolled the downtown area during the evening hours and issued 6 traffic citations, 2 Municipal Code citations for drinking in public, and 3 Municipal Code citations for urinating in public.

FRIDAY, MAY 6
At 12:30 a.m., an automated license plate reader alerted officers to a stolen car being driven in the downtown area. Officers located the car and arrested the driver, a 38-year-old man from the City of Norwalk, for grand theft auto.

At 4:30 p.m., a patrol officer located a stolen car being driven in the area of Firestone & Paramount. The driver, a 28-year-old man from the City of La Palma, was arrested for grand theft auto.

At 11:00 p.m., Downey officers assisted the South Gate Police Department with capturing suspects wanted in connection with an attempted murder that occurred in their city the previous day. South Gate officers pursued the suspects into the area of Alameda & Anderberg where the suspects then abandoned their car and fled on foot into the neighborhood. With the assistance of police K-9s and a helicopter, officers located two of the three suspects and arrested them.

SATURDAY, MAY 7
At 1:45 a.m., a drunk driver attempting to evade police crashed into another car at Downey & Rosecrans. Nobody was injured in the collision and the suspect was arrested for drunk driving and evading.

SUNDAY, MAY 8
At 2:00 a.m., officers observed numerous subjects fighting in front of Joseph’s (11032 Downey). Nobody was seriously injured and officers arrested one man for fighting in public/disorderly conduct.
