Deadline nears for art competition

Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA) invites all interested high school students living in California's 34th Congressional District to participate in "Artistic Discovery" - the 2010 Congressional Student Art Competition. The deadline to submit entries is Thursday. "The congressional student art competition helps to build self esteem in young artists and provides the community with valuable insight into the life experiences, challenges, and joys of our talented high school students," said Roybal-Allard, who is the honorary chair of the competition. "The art competition also recognizes the hardworking and caring teachers who provide their students with the inspiration, skills and tools they need to develop their artistic abilities." The district includes the communities of Bell, Bellflower, Bell Gardens, Boyle Heights, Commerce, Cudahy, Downey, Downtown Los Angeles, Huntington Park, Little Tokyo, Maywood, South Park, Vernon, Walnut Park, and portions of Chinatown, East Los Angeles, Florence, Pico Union, and Westlake.
