Downey police conducting DUI checkpoint Friday night

DOWNEY — Downey Police will be conducting a DUI checkpoint at a undisclosed location this Friday, Dec. 30, from 8 pm to 2:30 am.

Police said the checkpoint’s location will be determined by data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” said Chief Leslie Murray. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
