DOWNEY — The Downey Police Department’s Neighborhood Watch Program will host its 11th annual Block Captain Meeting on Tuesday, April 7, offering residents an opportunity to learn about crime prevention and connect with public safety officials.
The meeting is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Downey City Library, 11121 Brookshire Ave.
According to a department press release, officers will provide updates on neighborhood safety and share strategies to prevent vehicle burglaries and other common crimes. The presentation will include guidance on what residents should watch for in their communities and how to better protect their property.
A question-and-answer session will follow, allowing attendees to raise concerns and seek clarification on safety issues affecting their neighborhoods. Block captains will also have time to discuss specific challenges and collaborate on solutions with fellow participants and police representatives.
The annual meeting serves as a kickoff for another year of the Neighborhood Watch Program, which relies on volunteer block captains to help monitor neighborhoods and serve as liaisons between residents and law enforcement.
Residents interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP or request additional information by contacting Neighborhood Watch Coordinator Momi Cervantes at (562) 904-2357.
