Downey veteran delivers Pledge of Allegiance at county board meeting

DOWNEY — On Tuesday, Petty Officer Angelica Zamora, a U.S. Navy veteran and Downey resident, delivered the Pledge of Allegiance to open the weekly LA County Board of Supervisors meeting under the invitation of Supervisor Janice Hahn.

“On behalf of the County of Los Angeles, I want to thank you for our service to our country,” said Hahn, who presented Zamora with a certificate of recognition from the county.

“Through both your service and other amazing accomplishments, you have touched the lives of many people and are making the world a better place.”

Zamora is a graduate from Bell Gardens High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts from San Diego State University. Starting in 2011 she served for four years in the Navy as a Plane Captain and 3rd Class Petty Officer, where she won a number of awards, including the Navy Accommodation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and others.

Zamora works for Volunteers of America as a job developer for homeless female veterans and families. She is also the female veteran ambassador for Courage Forward, a non-profit organization for veterans services.

She currently lives in Downey with her husband and their two kids, Isabella and Junior.
